{ "currentVersion": 11.1, "cimVersion": "3.1.0", "serviceDescription": "Summary: Ocean Networks Canada demo in the Environmental Response Management Application (ERMATM) showcases Coastal Ocean Dynamics Applications Radar (CODAR) high resolution currents for the Strait of Georgia. The data presented are total current velocities in cm/s. Vector size varies with resolution of the image. This tool will showcase near real-time data and past hours in the next release.\n\nThe Coastal Ocean Dynamics Applications Radar (CODAR) system measures surface ocean current velocities using the Doppler shift of reflected radio waves. The term \"CODAR\" is frequently used as a generic term, but is also used to refer to CODAR Ocean Sensors, a leading manufacturer of these systems. A more general term for systems that employ radar to measure ocean currents is \"High Frequency (HF) Coastal Radar\". Data from three CODAR stations deployed on the VENUS observatory are integrated here. The stations are located at Westshore Coal Terminal in Tsawwassen (VCOL), Georgina Point (VGPT) and Iona (VION). The locations of these stations were selected so that their coverage overlaps, allowing radial velocities of ocean currents in the Strait of Georgia to be resolved into \"total\" velocities, i.e., north-south and east-west components. A new station, located at Point Atkinson (VATK) has recently increased the footprint north for the current measurements from CODAR. The combination of these four stations will be integrated in the next release of Ocean Networks Canada data. \nThe data showcased here for demonstration purposes is from January 30th, 2017, considering the present time to be 9PM (21:00:00). The different times showcased are as follow: 0 hours = 21:00:00, 1 hour back = 20:00:00, 2 hours back = 19:00:00, 3 hours back = 18:00:00, 4 hours back = 17:00:00 and 5 hours back = 16:00:00. \n\nFor more information about the CODAR technology, please visit: http://codar.com \nOceans 2.0 is ONC's sophisticated comprehensive data management system that receives, archives and provides high quality data to users in a variety of formats, and is recognized as a member of the International Council for Science as a World Data System. \nTo download the data and metadata from these systems, please access our CODAR data download via Oceans 2.0 data management system: http://dmas.uvic.ca/DataSearch?location=SOGCS&deviceCategory=RADAR \nFor the last 24h of data, showcasing four stations combined, visit: http://dmas.uvic.ca/home?TREETYPE=1&LOCATION=425&DEVICECATEGORY=65&TIMECONFIG=2 \nOcean Networks Canada (ONC) is an international science facility hosted by the University of Victoria.
